Question by : Are visible tattoos acceptable as a preschool music teacher?
I’m currently a teaching assistant at a daycare and they never told me any restrictions against tattoos and piercings. But I want to go to school for early childhood education and music education to be a music teacher at preschools. I’ve heard of music and art teachers having FULL sleeves covered in tattoos and it was acceptable because it was “works of art and appropriate.
I am planning on many tattoos. Will this interfere with my career?

I would think yes, it may affect your career, or the types of places that will hire you for work. As wrong as that sounds, some places are fairly strict on how they want their staff to look. Most want a clean and tidy image portrayed through their staff. Not to say that some places won’t be accepting of your artwork, but some may be put off by it. Or they may require you to cover them up. If it helps any, I see more and more heavily tattooed people in the workforce. And I believe that the best person for the job should be hired, tattoos or not. Just some workplaces are still a bit…traditional.

This will probably interfere with your career. Like it or not, the teaching profession is very traditional and tatoos are frowned upon. Check out the student dress code where you want to teach and assume teachers must meet or exceed the expectations of student dress code because teachers are expected to be a model for children to follow. The same goes for piercings.
It will, it also depends on where you teaching. Like in dallas, texas. Iv seen many teachers in arts field with tattoos, but those are the schools you want to avoid working in. might get your car broken into.
